Debut entry: what is the plan here?

Okay, I finally decided that I'd get into blogging, but with something that I love - Science Fiction movies! I have been a fan of genre for as long as I can remember (no really, some of my earliest memories are of watching particular movies that scared the crap out of me!). I am also an avid collector of the the films (I have over 1,000 of them so far) and have them posted on my home server so I can watch any of them with the click of the Sage remote.

What's a "Sage Remote"? It's just about the coolest thing out there if you're a movie collector like me (no, this is not going to be a commercial, just a testament to the product and an explanation of how I keep my movies 'on-demand'). SageTV has come out with the Sage Media Center, a slick little device that hooks up onto your network and allows you to view just about any .AVI, .MPG, .MKV, .ISO, etc. media file and have it play on your TV. I have one of these in every room in the house - and even in the basement. I can access any of my movies or recorded TV shows stored on my big file server in the basement (30Tb - that's 30,000 gigabytes!).

Since I have access to this growing library, and try to grab every new film I can, I'll start blogging willy-nilly on whatever peaks my interest - then let's see where you readers take me!

  1. Wayne,

Sage sounds cool. Is it pricey?

BTW: have you ever seen "The Monolith Monsters" from back in the '60's?

  2. The Sage unit is $179.95 - yeah, a bit pricey, but nothing to maintain (like a PC), it's compact and gives immediate access to my 1,500+ movies and 100+ TV series. A handy appliance.

Yes, I LOVED Monolith Monsters - I remember seeing it as a kid. I recently was able to get it for my collection. Needless to say I had to watch it as soon as it arrived! It sounds like a good item for the blog.
